Sarah Hanks practising Yoga with student

Sarah Hanks

Profile

Sarah is proud to be a qualified BWY* teacher teaching popular classes, special events and holidays in and around London. She believes that yoga is for everyone, regardless of age, gender or background. She also has specialist training in pregnancy, post-natal family yoga and the profound practice of yoga nidra (a practice of deep relaxation and ultimately meditation)..

Sarah first stumbled across yoga as an undergraduate student in the 1990's, this was an unexpected turn of events at the time as she was more often found sitting in the pub than sporting gym kit. Constant backache (following spinal surgery) disappeared shortly after she took up a weekly class of ashtanga vinyasa yoga (a physically demanding flowing form of yoga). Next thing she knew her body had been abducted by yoga aliens and she was getting up to practice yoga at an hour of the day when sightings of students are as rare as a blue moon.

The following year she travelled to Mysore, Southern India to study with Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. She then returned to the UK and commenced her teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga.

For Sarah, yoga IS the real deal. You will not regret having yoga in your life. It's like a great friendship or marriage, there will be highs, lows, laughter, frustration, periods of growth and stagnation. Times to reap the rewards and time to sow the seeds. It will not fail you that she can promise.

Sarah has been teaching full time since 2006 and is honoured to have taught tiny babies and their mummies, school children, teenagers far too cool to do yoga and willing (I think they are anyway) adults from all walks of life.

Sarah's inclusive teaching is not dogmatic and draws from many traditions with a core underpinning of sensitive awareness of body and breath whilst developing alignment, strength and flexibility in asana (postures).

Sarah would like to express healtfelt thanks all her teachers new and old for generously sharing their knowledge.
