Questions

Some Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a class?

During a yoga class, you will be guided through some breathing exercises (Pranayama), physical yoga postures (Asana) and a relaxation session.

Pointers:

  • If you are delayed, ensure that you do adequate preparation before joining in.
  • Listen to your body, if a pose causes you discomfort, please inform me.
  • Yoga is non-competitive, just work to your own capacity and don't compare yourself with others.

What should I wear?

Wear loose comfortable clothing which allows you to breathe and move freely. You may need an extra layer (inc. socks) to keep warm during relaxation. Yoga is practised with bare feet.

Do I need my own equipment?

No. Yoga mats, blankets and other props can be provided but you are welcome to bring your own if you have them.

What if I have an injury or health issue?

Please contact me to discuss before you start classes, so that you can attend a class most appropriate for you. Likewise, please inform me if you develop a new injury or medical condition. Yoga postures can be adapted for most conditions.

Can I eat before a yoga class?

It is not advisable to eat for at least an hour before your class or longer to digest a heavy meal as practising with a full stomach (food or liquids) is uncomfortable.

As the elimination of toxins is one of the benefits of yoga, drinking water after class is encouraged as it assists this process. However, drinking water during class is not advised.

How much does it cost?

The drop-in price for a single class is £10. If you would like to take a longer course you can buy an 8 week pass for £64. You can join a course at any time.

Once you've booked your course you may alternate between the other nights if you find you can't make your designated night due to work or social commitments.

Similarly, if you are on holidays for one or two weeks you then have the option of coming twice any week to make up your classes. The only restriction is that you make up your classes within the course period.

Where are the classes held?

Classes are held at the Friends Meeting House and John Ball Primary School in Blackheath Village. Please click here for class schedules and a map.
